Eating before security at Terminal 5
Landside food at T5 covers four venues in the main terminal building: The Globe (a craft beer pub with English and American pub classics), a Caffe Nero, a Costa Coffee, and an M&S Simply Food. The Globe is the only proper pub or sit-down option pre-security; the rest are grab-and-go.
The Globe is run with Big Smoke Brew Co. behind the taps, with a full kitchen menu (burgers, sharing platters, American grills, tacos) alongside the rotating craft beer list. The landside meal option at T5 if you want to share something proper with someone you are dropping off, or if you are checking in early and want a sit-down before bag drop. M&S Simply Food covers the take-away market for snacks, sandwiches, and ready meals to bring through. Caffe Nero and Costa cover the morning coffee and pastry market.
Anything beyond a pub meal, a coffee, or a grocery aisle waits airside in the departure lounge of Terminal 5 itself.
Eating after security at Terminal 5
The airside choice at T5 is by some way the deepest at Heathrow. The main T5A building holds the named sit-down restaurants and bars, including all four of the named-chef and named-brand venues. Sixteen airside venues sit in the main building, plus two more at the T5B satellite and one Starbucks at T5C, giving a 23-venue total when counted with the four landside venues in the main building.
The main airside lounge holds Gordon Ramsay Plane Food Market upstairs (the multi-brand hub relaunched in December 2025), Fortnum and Mason Bar opposite the Fortnum store near Gate A17, Pilots Bar and Kitchen on the upper level, The Crown Rivers Wetherspoon near Gate A5, The Curator cocktail bar, plus Giraffe, wagamama, itsu, Leon, Joe and The Juice, Five Guys, Pret A Manger, and the chain coffee outlets. T5B has a smaller Wetherspoon Express and a Starbucks at the B gates; T5C is effectively coffee-only with one Starbucks.
T5's food offer is materially deeper than Terminal 2 restaurants, Terminal 3 restaurants, or Terminal 4 restaurants. If you are connecting from another terminal with time to spare, T5 is the most worthwhile lunch detour, though the free inter-terminal coach plus the security re-screen add 30 to 45 minutes door-to-door. Sit-down restaurants
Four full sit-down restaurants at T5 are worth knowing by name, all airside in the main T5A building. A map of Terminal 5 shows the T5A, T5B, and T5C layout. The bar venues (Fortnum and Mason Bar, The Curator) are in their own section below; the chains are grouped further down.
Gordon Ramsay Plane Food Market
The original Plane Food restaurant reopened in December 2025 as a multi-brand market hub upstairs in the main T5A building. The format gathers dishes from across the Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Global portfolio under one roof: Lucky Cat for pan-Asian (sushi, fried chicken, duck leg bao), Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips for the British classic, Street Burger (Classic Smash, Chilli Cheese Smash), Street Pizza (Beef Short Rib, Vegan 'Nduja), a sushi counter, a grab-and-go counter, and a central cocktail bar. The original Plane Food classics including the full English, butter chicken curry, and the Idiot Sandwich are kept on the cross-menu. Open 05:00 to 21:30 daily. The closest any UK airport gets to a destination restaurant.
Pilots Bar and Kitchen
Rhubarb Hospitality Collection's 1950s aviation-themed brasserie on the upper level of the main T5A building, on the A-gates side. Sit-down service across an all-day brasserie menu: pancakes and eggs benedict for breakfast, burgers, salads, mains, and a cocktail list. The room is themed around mid-century aviation with photographs and propeller dressings. The accessible meal venue if Plane Food Market is busy.
Giraffe
Family-friendly world-kitchen chain on the upper level main departures lounge. Globe-trotting menu (quesadillas, burgers, fish and chips, full breakfasts), children's menu, plane-spotting views through the curtain wall. Roughly 05:30 to 21:30. The right call with kids.
wagamama
Pan-Asian noodle, ramen, rice bowl, and katsu curry chain on Level 2 near the A gates. Sit-down service at long shared tables, breakfast menu from 05:30. The T5 outlet was closed for refurbishment through early 2026 and reopened in late May 2026; confirm trading status if you are flying in the next few days. Faster turnaround than the named sit-down spots, more substantial than a sandwich.
Pubs and bars
Four pubs and bars at T5 are worth picking out by name: one landside, three airside in the main building. The Wetherspoon Express at the T5B satellite is covered separately in the satellites section below.
The Globe (landside)
Craft beer pub in the landside T5 forecourt before security, run with Big Smoke Brew Co. behind the taps. Menu is English pub classics, American grills, sharing platters, and tacos, with a rotating craft beer list. The only landside pub at T5 and one of the better airport pubs at Heathrow.
The Crown Rivers (Wetherspoon)
J D Wetherspoon's airside T5 pub near Gate A5 in the main building. Standard Wetherspoon menu (burgers, fish and chips, all-day breakfast, Sunday roast, curry) at Wetherspoon pricing, with the brewery's full beer range. Open 04:45 to 21:00 daily, the earliest opening of any food venue at Heathrow. Order at the table through the Wetherspoon app or at the bar. The cheapest sit-down meal at T5.
Fortnum and Mason Bar
The luxury airside bar at T5, opposite the Fortnum and Mason store near Gate A17. Menu runs from crumpets and afternoon tea through shellfish and charcuterie to caviar, with champagne by the glass alongside cocktails, beer, and wine. Open 05:30 to 22:00 daily. The right call for a champagne and oysters before a long-haul flight.
The Curator
Stylish airside bar in the main T5A departures lounge. Artisan cocktail list, craft beers, champagnes, plus a small-plates menu including vegetarian burgers and meat-free tapas. The cocktail-led alternative to Fortnum and Mason Bar if you want a more contemporary room and a longer cocktail list.
Quick service and grab and go
T5 has the broadest quick-service offer at the airport. One newsworthy addition arrived in November 2025.
Five Guys
Europe's first airport Five Guys, opened in November 2025 on the upper level of the main T5A airside building. Around 90 covers plus a take-away counter, multilingual ordering kiosks in six languages, and a dedicated Welcome Host. Open 05:00 to 22:00 daily, including breakfast. The standard Five Guys menu (burgers, hot dogs, fries, milkshakes) at the standard Five Guys pricing.
itsu
Sushi, rice bowls, and miso soup at Gate A15. Mostly grab-and-go with limited counter seating. The Japanese-style quick option past security if wagamama is busy or closed.
Leon
Mediterranean-inspired healthy fast food: chicken bowls, grain salads, halloumi wraps, breakfast pots. Pre-order via the Heathrow app is available.
Joe and The Juice
Smoothies, cold-pressed juices, sandwiches, and coffee, in the airside main T5A building. Counter service, take-away or stand-up.
The standard chains across T5 are Pret A Manger airside in the main building, Caffe Nero (landside and airside), Costa Coffee (landside and airside), and Starbucks (airside main, plus T5B and T5C). None has a T5-specific menu; the offer is the same as elsewhere. For take-away purchases on the way to the gate, the airside chain counters sit alongside the duty free stores.
Coffee and bakeries
Coffee chains at T5 run deep. Caffe Nero, Costa Coffee, and Starbucks all have multiple outlets across landside, airside, and the satellite buildings. Pret A Manger covers the airside main building from around 05:00, and Joe and The Juice adds smoothies and juices. There is no dedicated independent bakery at T5; the breakfast service at Plane Food Market, Pilots Bar and Kitchen, The Crown Rivers, and Giraffe covers the morning between them. Fortnum and Mason Bar serves an afternoon tea with proper patisserie that doubles as a pre-flight snack stop.
Eating at the T5B and T5C satellites
Terminal 5 has two airside satellite buildings, T5B and T5C, reached from the main T5A building by the underground T5 transit train. The transit takes around 3 minutes one-way and runs every 3 to 4 minutes. The food offer at the satellites is much lighter than the main building, so eating in T5A before riding out is usually the better plan.
T5B has two named venues: Wetherspoon Express, a smaller-format Wetherspoon pub open from around 05:30 to the last departing flight, and a Starbucks at the B gates. T5B also hosts the British Airways Club Lounge for B-gates passengers, which adds a third food and drink option for travellers with status or business-class entitlement.
T5C is effectively coffee-only, with a single Starbucks at the C gates. There are no British Airways lounges at T5C; passengers using C gates are typically advised to use the lounges in T5A or T5B before transiting. Standout places to eat at Terminal 5
T5 has the deepest standout list at Heathrow, with four destination venues plus the Five Guys novelty.
Gordon Ramsay Plane Food Market is the largest single story. Fortnum and Mason Bar is the luxury pick. Champagne, oysters, charcuterie, caviar, and proper afternoon tea, served opposite the Fortnum store near Gate A17, 05:30 to 22:00. The right call for one glass of champagne and a couple of plates before a long-haul rather than a full meal at a table.
Pilots Bar and Kitchen is the brasserie pick: a Rhubarb Hospitality 1950s aviation-themed room on the upper level of T5A, with full table-service brasserie cooking through breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The Globe is the landside standout. Craft beer pub with a Big Smoke Brew Co. taproom and a full English-and-American menu, in the T5 forecourt before security. Useful for a sit-down with someone you are dropping off.
Pre-ordering food to your gate
You can pre-order food at T5 for collection or delivery to your gate through the Heathrow app. The service is branded as Grab on Heathrow's own pages, the same name used across the airport; the underlying company changed its name to Servy in January 2021 but Heathrow has not changed the passenger-facing brand.
How it works at T5: download the Heathrow app or open Heathrow's pre-order page, pick a participating venue, choose your items, pay, and either collect at the counter or have the order delivered to your seat or gate. Named participating T5 venues include Gordon Ramsay Plane Food Market, The Globe, Giraffe, The Curator, and Leon; the participating list moves over time, so Heathrow's pre-order page is the source of truth on the day.
Pre-order is the most reliable way to skip the queue at peak, particularly during the morning long-haul departure bank when Plane Food Market, Pilots Bar and Kitchen, and Fortnum and Mason Bar fill quickly. If you are short on time after a long wait at security, pre-ordering can be the difference between a proper meal and a sandwich at the gate.
Best time to eat at Terminal 5
T5 venues open earlier than at any other Heathrow terminal because of the British Airways long-haul morning bank. The Crown Rivers opens at 04:45, the earliest at the airport. Plane Food Market and Five Guys open at 05:00. Fortnum and Mason Bar, wagamama, Giraffe, and Pilots Bar and Kitchen follow at 05:30. The late-closing venues are Five Guys and Fortnum and Mason Bar at 22:00.
The busiest service windows are the morning long-haul departure bank between 07:00 and 11:00, and the evening bank from 18:00 to 22:00 driven by the BA long-haul night flights. Sit-down restaurants fill quickly in those windows. The 11:00 to 14:00 stretch is the quietest, useful with a flexible itinerary or a long layover.
If you are flying from T5B or T5C, eat in the main T5A building before riding the transit train out; the satellites have a much lighter offer. The upgrade alternative to ordering from a venue is one of the Terminal 5 lounges, with food and drink included at status, paid, or business-class entry.
